Golfworx is geared towards youth between 12 and 18 who are identified as at-risk. Close cooperation with schools, PCYC and the police help Streetworx find the young people who are most vulnerable and in need of a program that enables them to build resilience and rise above their circumstances.
The Golfworx program consists of a combination of sporting activities and content sessions dealing with issues relevant to the youth. Young people learn how to play Golf in small groups – coached by active Golf professionals. Golf stars like Michael Campbell and Geoff Ogilvy support our Golf programmes! On the driving ranch and the putting green our youth learn the “right” swing and how to hit the ball. Once they are ready, they get out on the fairway to play their first holes.
To keep them fit and involved the Golfworx youth also run through footy coaching, boxing, soccer, fitness and other outdoor activities. While having fun the young people enjoy their gaming success and experience the power of a team rather than a lonesome fighter. They bond, succeed, overcome obstacles and achieve.
In our content sessions we deal with issues such as anger management, bullying or substance-use to address past and present experiences and enable the kids to share and heal. Through sessions dealing with communication, goal setting and career planning we enhance young people’s life skills and promote personal development.
Streetworx also organises encounters with celebrities who have been partnering with us for many years. Professional golfers like Michael Campbell and TV personalities like James Mathieson have participated very actively in the programs in the past. Young people look up to them as role models and listen to their experiences of success, failure and persistence.
Golfworx is fun and open doors to a future many young people never dared to dream of.
